To help me better assess my dental hygiene, I ordered an oral camera via Amazon for $ 160. It arrived on May 26, 2018. It's a Daryou USB camera model DY-50.
Here's one of the first pictures that I've taken with it:
It's a side view (tongue side) of my tooth #18 (on my far rear lower left). It has a deep cavity and will be extracted on June 6, 2018.
The gum tissue is pink. I interpret that to mean that it's healthy and should be able to heal properly after I have the extraction done. There has been concern about this because of the radiation I underwent in early 2015.
There are white chunks in a triangle area at the base of the tooth. I presume those are food particles that my brushing failed to remove. I need to improve my brushing ... as my dental hygienist keeps beseeching me to do. The camera shows her to be right.
The yellow/orange area is decay and plaque according to my dentist. It's beyond repair, which is why it will be extracted. The bright white tooth next to it is #19. It's a crown that she recently replaced. Nice job!
