Ken Larsen's Backgammon - JOKER tactic     

  

If you've got a big lead and are cruising to victory, watch out for "joker rolls" that could trip you up.  Examples:  1.) Protect yourself against 6-6 when bearing in.   2.) If the only way that your opponent can hurt you is to throw a 5-5, stay away from a point that can be hit by that 5-5.

 

In the position shown 18/11 saves red from being hurt by 2-2 and 3-3 joker rolls.  The second best move, 11/4, would be a 0.064 error.
