Ken Larsen's Backgammon - ANCHOR tactic

Make an anchor or preserve an anchor that you’ve already made.  You do this primarily when you have the weaker home board.  For example, your opponent has 10 checkers in the zone.

Tip:  Don't make an anchor on a point that is blocked by 6s.  For example, in the position shown, an anchor on the 23-point would not be very good.

In the position shown, bar/22, 8/7* is 0.071 worse.

Criteria for making an anchor:

  • You have the weaker home board.
You’re vulnerable (have multiple blots).
