Ken Larsen's Backgammon - ABREAK tactic

Break an anchor.  You have an anchor in your opponentís home board.  At some point, you must break it.  These problems illustrate positions where you should break the anchor.  There are three reasons for breaking an anchor:

  1. The rest of your board is deteriorating as evidenced by lots of stripped points.  Run before things get worse!
  2. Your opponent has stripped points.  Place your blots in front of these before his points get stronger.
  3. Your opponent is on the bar.  Now itís safe to run.

In the position shown 6/1 is second best and a blunder at 0.089.
